Supporting students
Safeguarding
Safeguarding and Wellbeing VISION
To support the College in ensuring that all students have the skills and knowledge to be school ready, work ready and life ready. To ensure that students are effectively safeguarded from the potential risk of harm and that the safety and well-being of the children is of the highest priority in all aspects of the school’s work. We believe that every student, regardless of age, has at all times and in all situations, a right to feel safe and protected from any situation or practice which results in a student being physically or psychologically damaged. We have a duty to ensure that every student has a voice and that their perspective, opinions and feelings are listened to.
Safeguarding and Wellbeing processes are integrated across the college to ensure that additional needs are met but also identified in a timely manner and targeted with appropriate interventions with shared goals between teaching staff, students and parents. We aim for students to leave us as happy and successful individuals who understand their needs and have the ability to self-advocate when required.

Support
Horizon Community College is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of students. Horizon has a committed team of staff who are trained as Designated Safeguarding leads or ‘DSL’. Along with Deputy DSL’s and Student wellbeing staff
Parents and Carers can feel confident that robust procedures are in place to ensure that all staff are suitable to work with students here at Horizon.
It is important to us that parents, carers and students perceive Horizon Community College as a safe space and encourage children to talk freely about any concerns or worries which may affect educational progress.
Students will be taken seriously if they seek help from a member of staff. Students may be referred for additional bespoke support from external agencies and will always endeavour to work in partnership with parents to inform them of additional support required or accessed for their child. However, staff cannot guarantee to consult parents first, or to keep student’s concerns confidential, if a referral must be made to agencies in order to safeguard the student’s welfare.
Keeping Children Safe in Education 2023 is statutory guidance that schools and colleges in England must have regard to when carrying out their duties to safeguard and promote the welfare of children.
