DUKE OF EDINBURGH AWARD
The Duke of Edinburgh Award is an internationally recognised scheme that, at its first two levels, is based around four core sections; Volunteering, Learning/Developing a Skill, Taking up/Improving a Physical challenge and taking part in an Expedition. At Horizon, we offer the Duke of Edinburgh award to promote teamwork, resilience, independence and engagement, all of which are part of our series of core values.
Eleven pupils from Horizon have been presented with their Bronze Award after completing various different activities such as martial arts, learning to crochet and volunteering to help us in the community, as well as the Expedition section.
Each section brings up different memories. Their backpacking trip was undertaken at the start of the heat wave and they recount stories of trying to find shade, an obsession with food and the glories of waking up in a tent.
We would like to congratulate our first 11 pupils to complete the award at Horizon post-covid, and It is hoped that others from the same cohort will also soon complete the Award.
