Year 8 School Hub

Welcome to the Year 8 School Webpage. This page has been designed to support you in accessing key information regarding your child during the course of this academic year.

The Year 8 School has a clear vision, developing students so that they are School Ready; Work Ready and Life Ready.  Everything we do is driven by the college core values of Tolerance, Teamwork, Kindness, Respect, Pride, Engagement, Questioning, Independence, Organisation and Resilience both in and outside of the classroom.

We aspire developing students who are positive role models for others within college and in the community.

Our ambition is to ensure the Year 8 School Curriculum is broad, balanced and accessible for all learners.  We challenge every learner, in every lesson, every day, enhance the character and skill set for all, and ensure that there are opportunities for all through our Careers and Enterprise programme.

By driving our vision, ambition and values we aim to provide equity of opportunity by removing academic and social barriers; develop global readiness so that students gain the knowledge and skill set needed, making a positive contribution beyond Horizon; support high expectations enabling students to build character and maximise their full potential; Engage with stakeholders to build a strong community; and create a culture of kindness for others.

Our Charity

The 8 school have developed links with Barnsley Hospice looking at a range of ways to support and raise funds throughout the academic year.

Barnsley Hospice is a charity that provides specialist compassionate care and support to hundreds of local people and their families. Barnsley Hospice is a place where patients are looked after and cared for in a relaxed and comfortable environment.

The ward is staffed by specialist consultants, doctors and nurses who work as part of a multi-professional team.

Other services available at the Hospice to help support patients and their families, including counsellors, a family support team, complementary therapists, discharge coordinator, social workers and spiritual adviser.

This charity work will be overseen by Mr Irving but very much led by the students. The Year 8 Lead Ambassadors have designed planned a range of exciting fund raising events that will be taking part over the course of the year.
