Year 11 School Hub

We are very proud of all the Y11 students and their commitment, dedication and focus to Y11 so far. We all know it is a busy year preparing for the summer exams and looking at post 16 options for when they move on from Horizon. Our strapline this year is – #getcomfortablewiththeuncomfortable. By this we mean we want the students to push themselves out of their comfort zone. To try new things and not be afraid, it is ok to fail at something, what is important is what we learn from it and how we respond. We enjoy praising the Y11 students through our regular assemblies, subject specific assemblies, celebrating the mock exam results, gold pin badges, bronze, silver, gold and platinum praise thresholds, star of the lesson, praise postcards and many more. We want the students to accept this praise and see that we really do appreciate their efforts and hard work. We look forward to celebrating with them at the Y11 Prom on  Thursday 2nd July.

There is a lot of support on offer for Y11 students to access including regular nightly subject interventions, a supportive Y11 study room open every night after school, exam support workshops, daily access to a form tutor, and a dedicated Y11 School team including a student welfare officer who is the first point of call for students before of after school and including break and lunchtimes.

Curriculum

During the course of year 11, students will continue with their studies working towards GCSE, BTEC or the equivalent qualifications.

They continue to study a broad and balanced curriculum including: English, Mathematics, Science and Religious Education. Some students will continue to study History or Geography, along with a Modern Foreign Language.

Students will have 3 progress checks throughout the year, along with two MOCK periods where their progress and attainment is carefully monitored to ensure they are making beyond expected progress and are reaching their maximum potential.  The 3 progress checks are shared with parents/carers and students.
