Dear Parents/Carers,
I hope you are well.
Yesterday, the government released details about how they would like schools to reopen fully in September.
I am pleased to inform you that we are preparing to open Horizon Community College to all students from Wednesday 2nd September.
We are busy putting in place a range of measures to ensure that your child will continue to receive the best possible education within a safe environment.
This will mean making adjustments to the way the college operates.
However, the design of the building and our ‘school within school’ model means that your child will continue to access a full curriculum. We are very fortunate to be in this position compared to many other schools.
In line with government advice, our intention is for each year group to:
· form its own bubble
· arrive, have lessons and breaks, and leave separately to other year groups
· be located in one area of the college for their lessons.
As a result, the new Year 11 will begin their school day at 9.15am and finish at 3.15pm. All other year groups will remain the same:
· Year 7 9.00am – 3.15pm
· Year 8 8.30am – 2.30pm
· Year 9 8.15am – 2.15pm
· Year 10 9.30am – 3.30pm.
We will continue to uphold the highest expectations around standards and behaviour, and students should wear full school uniform from Wednesday 2nd September.
Additional facilities and a thorough risk assessment will be put in place to ensure hygiene standards follow government guidance. We will expect students to uphold these at all times.
In addition, we are completing preparations for our new Year 7 students to provide them with a smooth and informative experience as they make the transition to secondary school, we look forward to sharing these plans with you in due course.
Your patience is appreciated while we finalise the specific plans for each year group and the measures we are putting in place to support them.
I am very much looking forward to welcoming all students back in September, and will be in touch soon with further details.
Kind regards
Mrs Huddart
