This page has been designed to provide information about the courses that we offer in Years 10 and 11 at Horizon Community College. It is a guide to help you make the right decisions about the courses you choose for next year. We have spent time trying to make it easy to understand and to provide enough information to give you a taste of what each course is about.
It is important that you spend time making the right decisions for you. It is a good idea to speak to older students, friends and family. Make sure that you understand what each course is about, what you are good at and whether you have the skills that are needed. It is vital that you make decisions based upon what is right for you; try not to be influenced by what your friends are doing or by a particular teacher as you may not have this teacher next year.
Also, use the information from the subject videos to help you choose something you will enjoy. (Click on each image to see the video)
When we have all of your choices, we will try our best to match your preferences. However, it is important that you give a reserve choice as well, which will give us some flexibility in organising next year’s curriculum.
Where required, we will discuss your choices with you again, so that we can finalise the subjects you will be taking and be sure that you have made the ‘right’ decisions. It is important that in completing your choices form that you use the information included in this booklet, read all the criteria carefully and speak to your teachers to ensure you make correct and valid options.
I hope you find this page useful and it enables you to make informed choices regarding your options.
