Half termContent & Assessment
Autumn half term 1Dance Vocabulary- A chance to explore the basic vocabulary and key words that are needed to talk like a “dance expert” There will be tasks set via Dance through Chance where spinner tools, dice and coin flips will help students to create basic routines. Assessment: Timed mini choreography tasks in each lesson. Frog Quiz.
Autumn half term 2Evolution of Dance- Exploring the developments in dance between 1920 and the current day. Students will complete workshops in each style, developing the steps using their knowledge of RADS. Assessment: Timed mini choreography tasks in each lesson. Frog Quiz.
Spring half term 1Dance styles-Folk- Students will explore the styles associated with folk dance, looking at technique, routine work and key practitioners. Assessment: Timed mini choreography tasks in each lesson. Frog Quiz.
Spring half term 2Dance Styles-Hip Hop- Students will explore the styles associated with Hip Hop, looking at technique, routine work and key practitioners. Assessment: Timed mini choreography tasks in each lesson. Frog Quiz.
Summer half term 1Dance Styles- Contemporary- Students will explore the styles associated with contemporary, looking at technique, routine work and key practitioners. Assessment: Timed mini choreography tasks in each lesson. Frog Quiz.
Summer half term 2Superheroes- Students will look at the starting point of superheroes and will create a short superhero themed dance routine using all of the skills they have learned this year. Assessment: Group routine performance, Frog Quiz.

Year 8

Half termContent & Assessment
Autumn half term 1Emancipation of Expressionism- A change to explore the professional work by Boy Blue Ent. Students will learn repertoire, create in the style and perform as a class. Assessment- Class performance, Frog Quiz.
Autumn half term 2Stimulus- Students will explore a range of Stimulus including shapes, pictures and props and will consider use of RADS when creating original work. Assessment: Timed mini choreography tasks in each lesson.
Spring half term 1Choreographer Focus- Andrew Winghart- Students will study Choreographer Andrew Winghart and his works. Students will learn repertoire and identify his “fingerprint” choreographic style and processes.

Assessment: Timed mini choreography tasks in each lesson.
Spring half term 2Dance Styles- Musical Theatre- Students will study the Lion King, learning repertoire from the Broadway show, exploring the starting point for the choreography and developing in the style. Assessment: Timed mini choreography tasks in each lesson.
Summer half term 1Dance Styles: Commercial- Students will explore commercial choreography and will learn and develop repertoire in the style. They will also be given a BRIEF which links to Ks4 learning to create a music video using their skills. Assessment: Class performance to a brief for a music video.
Summer half term 2Stimulus:Gangs- Students will explore the starting point of GANGS and will develop signature handshakes and dance off choreography. Assessment: Class DANCE OFF!

Year 9

Half termContent & Assessment
Autumn half term 1Twisted Poets- The World- An opportunity for students to explore THE WORLD by Twisted Poets. Students will learn repertoire, develop in the style and consider the stimulus and starting point for the piece. Assessment: Timed mini choreography tasks in each lesson.
Autumn half term 2The Heist- Students will study Swansong- a professional work by Christopher Bruce. They will create their own trio using this piece as a starting point. Assessment: Trio performance.
Spring half term 1STIMLULUS: DANCE SHOW: Students will be given a stimulus and must create a performance to a brief based on the theme of the upcoming dance show. Students will learn teacher choreography, develop their own material and ideas for the piece and will perform in the annual dance show. Assessment: Performance in the Dance Show. Written moodboards.
Assessment: Timed mini choreography tasks in each lesson.
Spring half term 2The Car Man- Students will explore the piece by Matthew Bourne. They will learn and develop repertoire and will create their own scenes in the style. Assessment: Written factfile about the piece, timed mini choreography tasks in each lesson.
Summer half term 1Dance Improvisations- Students will explore the concept of improvisation and how it can be used as a choreographic tool. They will use their improvised material to create routine work. Assessment: Timed mini choreography tasks in each lesson.
Summer half term 2The Island- Students will use all of the skills they have learned this year to create a small group routine based on a desert island and a crew shipwrecked there. Assessment: Group routine.

Year 10

Autumn half term 1Component 1- Exploring the Performing Arts- Swan Lake Reloaded- Students will explore Swan Lake Reloaded by Fredrik Rydman taking part in workshops, completing research into the piece and it’s themes and choreographic process. Assessment: Filmed workshops, coursework for component 1.
Autumn half term 2Component 1- Exploring the Performing Arts- 5 Soldiers- Students will explore 5 soldiers by Rosie Kay taking part in workshops, completing research into the piece and it’s themes and choreographic process. Assessment: Filmed workshops, coursework for component 1.
Spring half term 1Component 1- Exploring the Performing Arts- The Nutcracker- Students will explore the Nutcracker by Matthew Bourne taking part in workshops, completing research into the piece and it’s themes and choreographic process. Assessment: Filmed workshops, coursework for component 1.Assessment: Timed mini choreography tasks in each lesson.
Spring half term 2Component 1 Exploring the Performing Arts- Coursework completion- Students will compare and contrast the 3 works they have studied so far this year. Assessment: coursework for component 1.
Summer half term 1Skill building for Component 2 and 3- Students will take part in practical workshops which will help them to build skills needed for Component 2 and 3. Assessment: Mini choreographic tasks set within lessons, MOCK EXAM component 3.

Year 11

exam prep- Students will learn professional repertoire through lessons and will complete workshops in the style and will review their progress Assessment: Coursework- Skills audit and FINAL Component 2 performance. Small choreographic tasks within lessons.
Spring half term 2Component 3- Responding to a Brief Exam prep and final exam Students will have 12 hours to work in a group to prepare a workshop performance. Assessment: Component 3 external exam.
