2019 will be the 150th anniversary of the Periodic Table of Chemical Elements and has therefore been proclaimed the “International Year of the Periodic Table of Chemical Elements (IYPT2019)” by the United Nations General Assembly and UNESCO.
As a school we wanted to help celebrate this by kicking off the year with an event in Year 7 assembly. All 118 elements were represented as symbols held up by pupils to create a giant periodic table. Pupils were also shown how many chemical elements are needed to make both a human and a smart phone. There will be other events planned in school throughout 2019 so watch this space.
