On 21st March 2019, eight Year 9 students travelled to The University of Sheffield for their third session of the Discover US programme. Discover US is an aspiration-raising programme for pupils in Years 9-11 who have the potential to access Higher Education but may not see it as a potential post-16 pathway. The University of Sheffield supports them to discover what it’s really like to be a university student. Students are able to sample different subjects and find out about the courses that all five of the University Faculties have to offer – Social Sciences, Arts & Humanities, Science, Engineering, and Medicine, Dentistry & Health. As part of the programme, students have to develop their independence and leadership by travelling to and from the University on public transport and also mixing with students from other schools. Yesterday, students completed research surrounding each faculty and had to present the positives of their subject area, which was extremely informative and inspirational for the students. Well done and the students are already looking forward to the next event in Year 10.
