On Friday 17th May, 4 Y9 students visited the ASOS XPO Logistics site for a workplace visit. It was a reward for winning a competition earlier in the year, where they had to work out how to improve the efficiency of a warehouse operative’s day.
As part of the visit they were given a full health & safety briefing, provided with appropriate PPE & then given a tour of the site. Students got to meet a wide variety of staff who explained their job roles within the organisation; from Warehouse Operatives, Team Leaders, all the way up to Senior Logistics Manger. Students saw the full ‘distribution journey’ from the customer ordering an item, picking & packing, through to delivery. Students got to witness the vast amounts of technology within the distribution centre, including what XPO staff call ‘The Matrix’! A fully automated sorting system that moves items from all over the warehouse to be packed at the other end.
It was an incredibly inspiring day for the students and showed them the plethora of training and career opportunities within the distribution and logistics sector. Thank you to everyone at XPO Logistics & Ahead Partnership for making the day possible.
